Position Information

The Behavioral Health Counselor is responsible for the provision of mental health and substance abuse consultant services at WakeMed including: assessment, crisis intervention, counseling and patient/family education. Assists the physician in determining and facilitating the patient disposition and referrals to treatment and community resources post discharge. This includes facilitating involuntary commitments as directed by the physician. Assists with assuring patient safety for behavioral health patients. Participates in hospital and community initiatives that address mental health/substance abuse issues. Provides expertise in mental health/substance abuse issues to the interdisciplinary team including in-service education and support.


Experience Requirements

3 Years Clinical - Mental Health Or 3 Years Clinical - Substance Abuse/Addiction Required

Education Required

Bachelor's Degree Nursing Or Master's Degree Social Work Or Counseling Required - And Master's Degree Nursing Preferred

Licensure/Certification Requirements

Registered Nurse And Certified Mental Health Nurse Required - Or Licensed Clinical Social Worker Or Licensed Professional Counselor Or Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist Required - And Certified Notary Preferred

Hours of Work
M-F 1400-2220 and/or S/S 0700-2200
