Registered Nurse - Cardiac OBS Unit
Provides nursing care for post cardiac catheterizations, special interventional radiology procedures, and other cardiac related diagnoses. The RN is responsible for assisting in providing patient education, assessment and monitoring, administering medications, and discharging patients appropriately. Provides age specific directed care for the adolescent, adult and geriatric individuals, i.e., those tasks necessary for physical care and comfort, supportive tasks and teaching according to standards of care and cultural diversity. Participates in Quality Assurance and practices Infection control policies. Practice in accordance with state and federal law and health care regulatory standards.

Education: Current RN licensure from the Virginia State Board of Nursing. BLS, and ACLS required. Desired: Imaging, Interventional, and Therapeutic Environments Certification

Experience: Two years critical care, emergency room, or telemetry nursing experience; Post Cath Lab/step down unit experience desired.

Skills: Knowledge of and proficiency with complex invasive hemodynamic monitoring, IV therapy, moderate sedation, medication and IV solution administration. Ability to function under stress and emergency situations, critical thinking abilities. Effective organization, prioritization, time management and problem-solving skills. Team and goal-oriented yet able to function independently.

Professionalism: Posses excellent qualities in communication, adaptability, problem solving, attitude, and organization.

Typical Physical Demands: Full range of motion of upper and lower extremities. Moving and/or lifting patients and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Pushing equipment > 100 pounds. Dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges. Standing and/or walking for extensive periods of time. Working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Potential for exposure to communicable disease and/or body fluid which require the use of body substance isolation precautions.
